The Vall d’Hebron Spine Research Unit is a growing multidisciplinary group of professionals devoted to Spinal Disorders with an increasing impact in terms of number of publications, associated impact factor and research funding. Since 2010, we have increased the yearly published manuscripts by 80%. In 2019 we published a total of 26 manuscripts and won the 2nd best podium presentation award at the Spanish Spine Society Meeting.

During 2019 we have been awarded with 3 new competitive research grants and started working on a proposal to be submitted to the European call Horizon 2020 (SC1-BHC-06-2020: Digital diagnostics – developing tools for supporting clinical decisions by integrating various diagnostic data) including 20 hospitals and 6 non-clinical partners. New synergies with other research centers and universities have been established. We hope to expand this network in the future.

One of our research projects granted by the PI2016 and finished in 2019 has been very successful, with more than 30 podium and poster presentations in both national and international meetings and 5 published manuscripts. We are still involved in the first national Phase 1 study to assess the safety and effectiveness of stem cells in acute spinal cord injury patients granted by la Marató de TV3.
