Immunomediated Diseases and Innovative Therapies

Overview

The Immunomediated Diseases and Innovative Therapies is a heterogeneous area composed by both translational and clinical research groups which cover fields such as immunology, respiratory and systemic diseases, pharmacology, clinical biochemistry, rheumatology, advanced therapies or transfusional medicine. Its main strength derives precisely from this heterogeneity and the complementarity of the scientific interests and expertise of the different groups, many of which are currently joining efforts and synergizing in a variety of collaborative research projects.

Our team has continued working on autoimmune diseases and autoinflammatory disorders. Autoimmune disorders complicating pregnancy have also been a focus of our group. Studies focusing on the role of disturbances among diverse immune cells, cytokines and autoantibodies and their relationship with inflammatory placental-related disorders are ongoing in pregnant women. Animal models have been included in this research. The relationship between myositis and systemic sclerosis and cancer, as well as different autoantibody profiles with certain clinical subsets in both disorders, has been fully analysed. Recent reported autoimmune diseases in oncologic patients treated with check point inhibitors have also focused our interest. Gene-wide genetic and molecular signatures in patients with systemic vasculitis, Sjögren syndrome and systemic sclerosis to find relationship with clinical subsets have been studied. Finally, we also have described a new risk haplotype for developing autoimmune/granulomatous disorders in patients underwent bioimplants.

In summary, this group covers epidemiological, clinical, and basic research attempting to address bed-related concerns from patients to basic research to obtain translational results that permit us to solve these issues that affect a lot of people.
